Well, it's Saturday night and we finally are on the mend...from Wednesday night when Juliana got sick until mid-day on Friday we had a dreadfully wicked stomach virus. Six of the 10 of us were really sick. Dawn actually slept all day on Thursday...if any of you know Dawn, she does not take naps...and she very rarely get's sick...it hit her really hard. Besides Dawn and Juliana, I (Tim) got it, Conner got it (he slept straight for 22 hours, besides going to the bathroom), and Megan and Emily got it. For those of you who were praying, thank you so much.
Despite getting sick, the timing was such that Dawn or I could still go to visit Kiara everyday. Apparently there was something going around...a few of the nuns had the same virus and a few of the children in the orphan had it. All is well now!
Kiara is doing well, and we are excited to be able to spend time with her at our apartment. She is very cute. Tonight she was not interested in eating...Dawn is sad, that while this orphanage is way better than a state run orphanage, the little children are on a limited diet...she didn't want the mashed potatoes or the yogurt tonight.
Tonight we had dinner at a missionary's home. They have been in Albania for 19 years...they minister to the Roma people. They are from Scotland and the Caribbean...they have three boys which matched up to Conner and Christian's age. It was nice to fellowship with other believers over a nice meal.
Continue to pray for us and Kiara. God is good!!!
As of a few moments ago Juliana just threw up again! Please pray that no one else gets sick or re-sick!
Well be made it!!! We got to the JFK airport with minimal delays. Checked in 13 pieces of luggage, carried on 5 pieces, got seats together and made our connecting flight from Rome to Albania without any problems. God is good!
We met our Bethany contact in Albania who drove us to Elbasan, Albania...it was really raining hard and there was some flooding however got here safely! Praise God!
Got settled into our apartment...a bed for everyone of us...all good except for a few termites eating the kitchen table, but all in all will meet our needs. Went shopping at the open market...really good fresh fruits and veggies.
We met Kiara for the first time on Tuesday...she is beautiful...can't wait to share photos once we are allowed to, after our court hearing!!! Dawn and I went to the orphanage on Tuesday morning and evening...all the kids on Wednesday morning...she's warming up to us...we can tell she is well loved by the nuns since she knows them and isn't quite sure who we are yet. However she is beginning to hug us and starting to show us her great smile. God is Amazing!
Dear Friends and Family,
Wow it is difficult to believe that one week from today we will likely be on our way to the airport, preparing to fly to Albania. We can’t wait to meet our daughter, Kiara. As many of you already know Kiara was born 5 weeks premature and she also has Down syndrome. She is 22 months old today. We will likely be in Albania on her 2nd Birthday November 11.
Ten out of the twelve of us will be traveling to Albania. Jared is in Texas looking for a job and Kayla will stay home to work and hold down the fort here. She will be caring for our pony, 12 chickens, puppy and 3 cats and her own horse too. Tim will be staying in country for 4 to 6 weeks and the rest of us will be staying for 7 to 9 weeks. We will be living in a third floor apartment in the middle of a town. We will also be visiting Kiara’s orphanage for up to 6 hours a day. This trip will be quite the adventure for all of us.
Please pray that God would continue to raise the funds we need in order to travel and that he would also help all of us adjust to living in a foreign country for so long.
Thanks to all of you for your help with our Both Hands project which has helped us raise most of the support we need in order to travel.
Thank you for your friendship and for your prayers,
In the grip of His grace,
Tim and Dawn
